A dropper and a pipette are closely related, but they are not exactly the same thing. A pipette is the general name for a tube used to draw up and transfer liquid, while a dropper is a specific kind of pipette that has a rubber teat and dispenses liquid in drops. In everyday language the…
The pharmaceutical bottle dropper developed over the nineteenth and twentieth centuries from a simple idea: a glass tube with a flexible bulb that draws up and releases small amounts of liquid. It grew into a standard closure for medicines, tinctures and eye preparations once glassmaking, rubber technology and pharmacy practice had all reached a certain…
Droppers come in sizes that match the bottle they fit, and for standard dropper bottles the key size is the DIN18 (GL18) thread. A DIN18 dropper fits DIN18 bottles of 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 50 and 100 ml, while the glass pipette inside is cut to a length that suits the bottle height. Thread…
Droppers for chemistry are small tools for transferring and adding liquid in drops or small volumes. In a laboratory this usually means a Pasteur pipette with a rubber bulb, a plastic transfer pipette, or a dropper bottle that holds an indicator or reagent. They are used for convenience and speed, not for exact measurement. Common…
A dropper is used to measure out and dispense a liquid in small, controlled amounts, one drop at a time. It does this by combining a rubber or elastomer teat, which creates suction when squeezed, with a narrow glass or plastic pipette that holds the liquid until it is released. Droppers are used in cosmetics,…
